CJ started his career with Basic Advertising as a copywriting intern back in 2002. He transitioned into planning soon after Basic Advertising and Jimenez D’arcy merged to form JimenezBasic. Since then he has built his expertise through planning stints with Bates, Ogilvy, and back to what is now Publicis JimenezBasic.
CJ has worked with the Philippines biggest local clients: United Laboratories, Globe Telecom, Jollibee Foods Corporation, Monde Nissin, and Splash. He also has regional brand experience with Mondelez, Unilever, and L’Oreal.
His track record of planning excellence has manifested in global, regional and local recognition. He was the 2010 Publicis Young Lion for Planning, the 2013 Campaign Southeast Asia Planner of the year 1st runner up, and most recently, the Adobo Creative Rankings #2 planner in the Philippines.
CJ has built his career on connecting brands with Filipino pop culture, resulting in strong business growth. His best work features local brands dominating their categories despite pressure from international players. (Jollibee vs. McDonald’s; Greenwich vs. Pizza Hut; Unilab vs. Pfizer/Sanofi; LuckyMe! vs. Nissin Japan) He achieves these breakthroughs by driving his dynamic and mutli-disciplinary planning team to keep on discovering the intersections between brands, people and culture.
