The Mobile Marketing Association released the latest version of its U.S. Consumer Best Practices (CBP) Guidelines for Cross-Carrier Mobile Content Services.
The new, version 4.0 guidelines are the first to consolidate the individual mobile marketing guidelines and codes of conduct – known as “carrier playbooks” – of the four largest U.S. wireless service providers: Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile USA.
In addition to incorporating carrier standards, the new guidelines include revisions and additions to key areas such as:
- Standardizing the language “Msg & Data Rates May Apply”
- Allowing for more flexibility with PIN location in message-terminated (MT) messages
- Modifying the STOP requirement in Opt-in MT messages

Mobile Marketing Association Opens Public Review Period for New Version of Global Mobile Advertising Guidelines
The Mobile Advertising Committee has worked over the last 8 months to expand and improve the current version of the Mobile Advertising Guidelines. The final approval process is the release of the document for public review. The public review period started on August 7th and comments were due by August 31st.. Read the full story

Scheduled Releases:
- September 2009: Global Mobile Advertising Overview v4.0 in English and German
- October 2009: U.S. Consumer Best Practices Guidelines v4.1
- The Global Mobile Advertising Guidelines document has completed public review and is currently in public review response. Look for the release later this month.
- The North America Women in Wireless committee has started a Peer Mentoring Webinar Series. The first webinar was held on media relations/ public speaking on July 27th.
- The Consumer Best Practices committee met in Seattle, WA on August 27th to discuss the next version of the US Consumer Best Practices Guidelines.
- A task force on Location Based Advertising has been formed to address appropriate practices for targeting consumers based on location. Please send an email to [email protected] if you are interested in participating.
- The Global Academic Outreach committee is accepting new committee members.
- Whitepapers in the areas of: Mobile Coupons, 2D Codes, Widgets and Ring Back Tones are in progress. Please send an email to [email protected] if you are interested in participating.
- The MMA is pleased to announce the new Mobile Banking & Finance committee, previously a sub-committee of the Mobile Commerce committee.
- The MMA would like to congratulate new co chairs: Rachel Walkden of Ringleader Digital , co-chair of the Measurement committee, and Kyle Crawford of Neustar, co-chair of the Mobile Commerce Committee.
