Offer for Pre-Registration of Dotmobi Domain Names to MMA Members
Dotmobi is unique – it is the first top level domain dedicated to delivering the Internet to mobile devices. Dotmobi guides mobile users to made-for-mobile Internet content and data services by using the .mobi suffix at the end of a Web address instead of .com or .org. The .mobi suffix is designed to act as a clear signal to users that the Web site has been specifically designed to be accessed and browsed using the small screen display of a typical mobile device. As mobile device penetration continues to outpace PCs by 2:1, the use of the Internet on the mobile device will be will be a key requirement. Supported by a cross section of the most visible mobile industry players and application providers, dotmobi is the default address for content and data services that are tailor made for the mobile experience.
Members of MMA have an exclusive opportunity to register their trademarked names during an 8 day Limited Industry Sunrise Period from May 22nd to May 29th 2006. This is a benefit for members of MMA, since they will have an advantage in securing their desired names in order to build content and services around the unique and high valuable mobile domain “.mobi”

The registrant must:
- Be listed as a Member of the MMA, and;
- Register names that are either trademarked or applied for prior to July 11th 2005
Preparation
As there is only a small window of opportunity in which to prepare for the Limited Industry Sunrise, all members are urged to prepare all of the necessary information needed to register desired names well in advance of the May 22nd date. Often the correct contact for registration of trademark names within an organization is the Webmaster, IP attorney or the trademark and branding experts. Specifically the members will need to have:
- Trademark name which is to be registered in dotmobi
o The name must have at least three characters
o Special characters are not allowed
- Trademark identification number
- Date of Trademark application (note: this date must be before July 11th 2005)
- Date of granting of trademark
- Country of trademark registration
- The EXACT way the company name appears on the MMA membership list
How to Register a dotmobi Name
To register desired domain names:
1. Prepare the documentation listed above
2. Contact your preferred registrar or choose of one the registrars listed on the mtld.mobi website: http://pc.mtld.mobi/switched/findaregistrar.html
3. Register your domain names!
It is extremely important that all members refer to the full list of requirements governing how domain names may be registered. Please refer to these before registering your domain name.
PLEASE NOTE:
In order to further facilitate the Mobile Industry, mTLD has decided to extend the deadline on which changes to the membership lists of eligible mobile industry associations, must be notified to us. The deadline of Friday 28th April has now been extended to Thursday 11th May 2006. The preliminary list will be available on our website until that date. Members of the eligible organizations now have until 5:00 PM (US Eastern Standard Time), on this date, to submit their changes to [email protected].
On Monday 15th May 2006, mTLD will issue a final list of organizations which are eligible for Industry Sunrise.
