Ryan Gavin is a business operator who builds and scales enterprise platforms at moments that matter. As EVP and Chief Marketing Officer at Slack, he leads the company’s global growth engine across product, go-to-market, and commercial strategy for one of Salesforce’s most strategic and fastest-growing businesses. His mandate is clear: scale product-led-growth, expand penetration into the enterprise, and convert Slack into the work operating system for the agentic enterprise. Since joining, Slack has accelerated meaningfully: 2.5x revenue growth, 100K+ new customers added in the past year, and explosive AI adoption with usage up 900% and tens of billions of messages flowing through the platform each month.
Ryan’s career is defined by owning and delivering business outcomes. At Convoy, as Chief Growth Officer, he owned the commercial engine of a $650M+ marketplace, improving unit economics by over 2,000 basis points while scaling a Fortune 500 customer base. At Amazon Web Services, he built the AI/ML business into a global, multi-billion-dollar category, driving enterprise adoption of services like SageMaker. Earlier at Microsoft, he led Bing’s turnaround to profitability and scaled it to over five billion monthly searches, and ran the commercial Surface business as a multi-billion-dollar P&L with sustained double-digit growth. Across each role, the pattern is consistent: step into complexity, align teams to outcomes, and deliver durable growth.
Ryan has a leading voice on how AI is reshaping enterprise work, with a focus on how organizations actually capture the value of AI rather than just adopting it. Under his leadership, Slack is becoming the system where humans and agents operate together, turning context into action at scale. Ryan lives in Seattle with his family where he also advises and serves on the boards of several technology companies.
