Multiplied Media is an emerging mobile applications developer that provides multi-platform distribution of on-demand content for some of the world's largest media properties. The company’s flagship smart phone product is Poynt – a world class, always-on local search tool available for the BlackBerry and Apple mobile operating system platforms in the United States, Canada, and parts of Western Europe. A version of Poynt for the Android, Nokia and Windows Mobile operating systems is forthcoming. Multiplied Media’s core objective is to assist established media operators in reaching their target audiences through every relevant, high traffic, connected device available. Multiplied Media has established corporate partnerships in order to create an extensive database that is continually monitored and checked to ensure that search results are accurate. The company is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, one of the fastest growing technology and engineering centres on the continent. With over 2.4 million users, Poynt has quickly gained an impressive following in the rapidly expanding location-based search app market. Multiplied Media’s user growth strategy is based upon three drivers:

  • Launching Poynt on additional mobile platforms
  • Expanding its geographic footprint
  • Introducing new search verticals

The Poynt application has several compelling competitive advantages, including a growing user base, a comprehensive search database, and early mover positioning. Current performance-based interaction that generates shared revenue on Poynt includes:

  • Click through or orders by users
  • Business directories
  • Movies – partnering with Cinema-Source
  • Restaurants – partnering with OpenTable

The Challenge - Shape An Emerging Industry & Monetize A Growing User Base
We are looking for an “integrator” personality with the domain expertise, network, and drive to develop and monetize advertising opportunities in the mobile space. The incumbent will essentially be responsible for generating all of the company’s revenues. Working with the business development team, the successful candidate will be expected to close qualified opportunities and drive the fill rate for Multiplied Media’s advertising uptake.
The Vice President, Advertising will be responsible for developing advertising strategies to capitalize on Poynt’s exponential growth in its installed base. With monthly page views climbing from 4 million to 30 million in the last six months alone, this industry leading growth curve continues, and requires dedicated stewardship. The incumbent’s team will strive to ultimately monetize each unique Poynt user. In addition, the Vice President will need to:

  • Actively shape both their role within the company, as well as the industry as a whole.
  • Collaborate closely with three distinct groups within the company: the Marketing Team, the Development Team, and the Business Development Team.
  • Continue the development and nurturing of Multiplied Media’s existing strong relationship with Research in Motion (RIM).
  • Maintain an intimate knowledge of the mobile advertising space, and communicate back to the internal team on market trends and movements that can affect Poynt’s market share and growth potential.
  • Manage all advertising relationships.

The Individual - Hunter, Maven, Navigator
The new Vice President, Advertising will be required to build a new, critical pillar within Multiplied Media’s existing team of seasoned professionals. The expectation is for the successful candidate to integrate quickly into the team and ultimately accelerate full realization of Multiplied Media’s growth strategy. The individual will be comfortable with the demands of an emerging company. Quality and frequency of communication, both internally and externally, must be a well practiced art for this individual. Familiarity with North America’s key advertising agencies will be a key to success in this role. The successful candidate should have contacts with existing media agencies and an enthusiasm for generating and nurturing new relationships with senior account managers at leading media agencies.

The individual should have previous experience working with mobile applications. Ideally, they will also have been instrumental in building a substantial web property from infancy to substance within an entrepreneurial environment. Competitive candidates should have at least five years of advertising agency, internet/new media marketing, or some other form of marketing strategy experience. A relatively high degree of entrepreneurial risk tolerance will be expected of serious candidates. The role will require regular travel.

The Location
Ideally, the successful candidate will be located in Calgary, with the expectation of regular travel to New York and/or Los Angeles - North America’s two leading advertising industry hubs, as well as other locations. Residing in an alternate metropolitan location in Canada or the US may be considered. Regular travel to Multiplied Media’s headquarters in Calgary would be required in order to interact with the senior management team.
