Somo and Top Gear Magazine put fans in the driving seat of Aston Martin's One-77 £1.2m hypercar with new iPad app

November 27, 2012

Somo (www.somoglobal.com), the largest independent global mobile marketing company, today announces the launch of its latest app, the Top Gear Aston Martin One-77 Special, produced for Top Gear Magazine.

The iPad app, which is free to download from the App Store, showcases the astonishing £1.2 million hypercar that Aston declared would only ever be driven by the billionaire’s fortunate enough to be able to acquire one of the seventy seven ever made. However Top Gear, not famous for their rule abiding nature, were straight on the plane to Dubai when they received the invitation from Abdulla Al Ketbi, to test drive his personal One-77. The culmination of which is brought to the user through this free application.

The beautifully designed app brings to life the stunning One-77 through a series of interactive chapters that tell the story of the car from its inception, to its hand-crafted build, to the desert test drive enjoyed by Top Gear Magazine. Users can admire stunning high-def photos of the One-77 on the move and delve beneath the skin of the car via information hotspots.

Charlie Turner, Top Gear Magazine’s Editor in Chief, said “the One-77 was the car that Aston Martin said only owners would ever get to drive. Fortunately we met a very generous one, who handed us the keys and pointed in the direction of the desert. We wanted readers to experience this car in all its detail, and this app delivers that. We take them through the whole One-77 journey, from design, to manufacturing and testing, allowing them to dig below the surface and see its construction and high-speed testing. Finally, we put them in the most exclusive driving seat on the planet.”

Maani Safa, Global Innovation Director at Somo commented “Building an iPad app for a brand like Top Gear and specifically a car as amazing as the Aston Martin One-77 was a great pleasure. Through the use of some truly innovative tech we have built an app that really embodies the next generation of publishing – we’ve transformed the magazine and created something that will delight current subscribers and new users alike.”
